From the beginning, Jessica Galván has been passionate about hairdressing. As a child in Monterrey, México, spending her after school time and weekends at her mother's salon - watching, admiring, and learning from the extraordinary Silvia Galván - she was right at home.
"I love everything about hair," she says, "Doing haircuts, color, extensions, you name it, all coming together to create an image. One of my major trademarks is getting clients' hair to its healthiest and most lustrous. And I absolutely adore the challenge of doing a great makeover. The reward is the clients reactions and that look of pure joy on their faces when they see how beautiful they can be."
At nineteen, Jessica made her mother proud when she announced she wanted to pursue hairdressing as a career. Going to beauty school came next at the Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy in Dallas, Texas where she enrolled in 1991.
Partnering with her sister Erika who handles the business end of the enterprise, she opened the Jessica Galván Hair Studio in Beverly Hills in 2002. A warm, inviting and intimate space, the salon features eight chairs plus a make-up station. "I can't think of anyone I would want to have as business partner more than Erika," reports Jessica. "Because she has such a brilliant head for business and handles the day-to-day operating logistics like clockwork, it allows me to be creative, concentrate on my clients and educate my staff. As both sisters and co-owners, we're totally in this together. I love, trust and admire her more than I can express."
Like her mother Silvia, Jessica has become a celebrity stylist in her own right. It hasn't taken long for word to get out and soon enough the high-end clientele included actors, musicians, anchors, producers, writers and other industry notables.
And also like her mother, ongoing education for herself and her staff are essential to staying on top. "I believe it is important to learn new techniques and take classes every year no matter how long you've been in the business. After all, professional dancers never stop going to class and professional athletes never stop training. I'm here to tell you that as beauty professionals neither should we." To further keep up with cutting-edge trends and techniques, Jessica regularly attends hair shows in Paris, London and Milan.
Away from work, Jessica thrives on daily workouts. Her heart belongs to her husband Marc, her daughter Lola Sofia and her beloved dogs. "My family comes first. Always," she says. "Marc's constant love and support give me strength, courage and inspiration."
Concludes Jessica Galván, "We have been so fortunate in bringing our family business to the U.S. An incredible clientele and our talented, supportive staff have enabled us to prosper here. It's been an amazing journey. I have fun with everything I do. I feel blessed. I want to do this forever!"
